Ken Maison was born in Ghana and moved to the United States at a young age. With his mother from Kumasi in the Ashanti region and his father from Cape Coast in Central region, Ghana has always remained close to his heart. The desire to give back to the country that shaped his early years never faded. With the love and unwavering support of his amazing wife, Amber Maison, a native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, they reached a point in their journey where giving back was no longer a dream—it became a mission. That mission became the Kamba Media Foundation. Founded to promote equity and access for the Ghanaian people, the foundation focuses on two core pillars: digital literacy and education, especially for children and young girls, and healthcare and awareness for all. Through this work, they honor Ken's roots and invest in a brighter, more connected future for Ghana.
The Name "Kamba"
The name Kamba, from the Kamba Media Foundation came from a collaboration of the founders names: Kenneth and Amber Maison. The K is from the first letter of Kenneth Maison the president of Kamba Media Foundation and AMB is from the vice president’s name Amber Maison. The last letter A of the KambA is a funny story. It was a spelling error by Kenneth when putting the 2 names together he changed out the E for AmbEr to an A, thus creating KAMBA. In keeping with the collaboration of their names, Kamba Media Foundation is also a collaboration of both their passion projects to give back to the Ghana community through healthcare and advancing school education through digital literacy.
The Foundation's Groundbreaking Launch
The World’s First Global Innovative Beacon School — A Bridge to Digital Equity and Access
In partnership with Intel(r), we launched the world's first Global Innovative Beacon School in Accra, Ghana. Nungua Presbyterian Junior High School is now equipped with a smart digital classroom. This innovative lab boasts a 65" digital interactive smart board by SMART Technologies and 20 learning stations, each equipped with a full-size monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset powered by Intel.
Expanding Access to Digital Education in Ghana
In the second half of this year, we are excited to launch three additional Global Innovative Beacon Schools, completing our initial goal of establishing a presence in all four regions of Ghana. These state-of-the-art technology labs will serve as pilot sites for our foundation, helping us refine the most effective approach to scaling smart digital classrooms across underserved schools in Ghana. Once proven successful, this model will be expanded to support similar communities in other underserved countries.
Expanding the Beacon Vision
We’re building on the success of the Global Innovative Beacon Schools to reach more communities across Ghana. What began as a single model of innovation and opportunity is now the blueprint for nationwide impact. Our ultimate goal is to establish Beacon Schools in cities and rural areas throughout the country—ensuring every Ghanaian child, especially girls, has access to quality digital education and the chance to thrive in a connected world.
